Balancing Act -- By Zia L

The rain showed no sign of slowing, not even a hint of stopping, but the now eased restrictions meant Frank and Bruno would return as waiters inside the nearby restaurant.

There still remained the matter of Bruno accepting the loss of yesterday's bet when the plate fell from his tray and came crashing to the ground. So today, after careful persuasion, Bruno now accepted being less of a waiter for only that moment yesterday.

Both Frank and Bruno work as waiters at the same restaurant, and while yesterday's shift dragged along, they each needed uplifting, when suddenly an unbelievably attractive woman entered the restaurant.  She instantly felt the weight of the playful glances he kept shooting her, for like a game of dodgeball, she kept avoiding them, until watching Bruno hurry over to her table and ask, “Are you ready to order?”

“Yes, I'd like the first ten items on the menu please,” she said.

With confusion written across Bruno's face, he stumbled into the kitchen, when Frank, who had overheard the order, intercepted him and reminded, “the customer's always right”.

Bruno then began smirking while giving the kitchen staff the instruction. The prepared foods were then stacked on the counter until the stack became too many for them to carry to the lady's table. The food was then transferred from the counter onto the trolley, which was now brought to the lady's table.

Although, a quick glance down the aisle next to where the lady sat posed an immediate concern, for still strollers littered the aisle, as three children were today celebrating birthdays. Rather than give those impressionable children a hint of a mistake, instead, an exchange of head nods between Frank and Bruno signaled that they each maneuver the trolley past the strollers. Once reaching the lady's table they each began unloading the foods from the trolley and placing them in front of her.

“That was impressive!” she says to Frank who deflected the praise to Bruno who, by now, was begging for her name.

“The name's Syra" she says.

“Can I interest you in the dessert menu?” asks Frank.

Before Syra answered Frank realized that, if her answer was “yes”, then this was an excellent chance of involving Bruno, for he'd probably be the one to bring her that dessert anyway.

“I'd like the apple cobbler please!”

“Coming right up!” says Frank while making eye contact with Bruno.
